Emotional resilience for a world in transition.
Mental health for a changing world
I help individuals and communities navigate the emotional impact of climate change, ecological grief, and societal disruption. My approach blends counselling, systems thinking, and nature-connected practices to foster grounded hope, clarity, and connection in uncertain times.
Matthew Coxhill
I am a counsellor, mediator, and guide for those navigating the emotional and existential challenges of a world in ecological and social upheaval. With a deep commitment to holistic, client-centred care, I support individuals of all ages in cultivating resilience, processing grief, and reconnecting with a grounded sense of purpose.
Drawing on a strong background in conflict resolution and systems thinking, my work is rooted in the recognition that eco-anxiety, climate grief, and fear of collapse are not pathologies, but natural responses to living in a time of profound change. I create space for clients to explore these emotions with honesty and compassion, transforming overwhelm into insight, paralysis into agency, and despair into a deeper sense of belonging.
My professional journey spans fish farming, multinational corporations, small business, and academia – experiences that have shaped my grounded, pragmatic approach to complex emotional terrain. Underpinning my work is a deep spiritual connection to nature and the wilder places of the world, which continue to inform my therapeutic and educational practice.
I hold a Diploma of Counselling, a Bachelor of Science, and a Master’s in Peace and Conflict Studies. I am also a casual academic at the University of Newcastle, where I teach in the School of Environmental and Life Sciences.
